I'm now in the market for a new camper. Thing is, a fifth wheel camper really won't work for me, at least not very good. Between my lift and not really wanting a bunch of holes in the bed of my truck, a fiver isn't for me. I was at the RV place today and the guy pretty much said NO WAY with the lift.
I know Darren, it will work but it's not right....
My question is, is a travel trailer something I will regret buying? I was looking at some really nice ones that seem to be well constructed with great features. The family really liked one we found and the price was reasonable as well. I'm just not sure what to do. The lift is not coming off my truck either way.
So what does everyone think? Get the travel trailer and be happy with it? Get a fiver anyway and pull it around like a takeoff ramp?
Here's the trailer I'm looking at right now. Anyone have one similar and have anything to say about it? Good or bad??
Depends on your personal situation. we have a TT and love it. someday will have a 5th wheel. It's 10K lbs loaded to go. We have lots of fun. dont let that stop you from getting a Travel trailer. Beauty is that I can load my bed fully with firewood, and be the envy of the campground. hehe.
Cant comment on the catalina but can say this..Lots of people want a travel trailer over a fiver.Myself included.I chose one to have full use of the bed of my truck.Bikes, golf carts and whatever else.Im not hanging anything off the back of a camper bumper nor am I going to put four bikes inside my camper.Pulls straight as an arrow with no sway what so ever.Mine is a 34 ft jayco coming in at almost 10k loaded. Not saying fifth wheels arent nice but for me having my bed to put whatever I want trumps everything else.
By the way that floor plan is almost identicle to mine....Looks awesome.
I need my bed for dogs, crates, tools, firewood, ect, ect....
We bought an Artic Fox 25Y, 30' bumper pull travel trailer and added the ProPride P3 hitch. It makes an awesome combination with my truck. A joy to tow and camp in. Go for it and enjoy!

Another question - who's using a WD hitch and/or sway control setup?
I have no need for a WD hitch but the sales guy at the RV place was pushing that I needed to use a sway control device. I've pulled alot of trailers, alot heavier as well and had no problems. A 30ft 101" wide H&H enclosed pulls just fine behind my truck. Not sure why this camper would be any different?

I have a propride set up which covers both but ive had this set up from previous trucks and campers.I believe all the new superduties have sway control built in to the truck itself. There was a good youtube video that put this to the test.As far as weight distribution im not quite sure how I could get away without one with all that tongue weight.I think I would be in an accident if I didnt, with loss of steering control.ive never driven without it.I can say that my truck will squat alot in the rear and be nose high before I hook up the weight distribution chains.
Had a 27' Jayco pull behind and now have a 34' fifth wheel. Pulled the TT mostly with my 7.3 and had no weight distribution hitch or sway control and never had an issue. The 7.3 has airbags and the 6.7 is about to get them. In my opinion, the fact that you have a lift pretty well rules out the 5er. But, I will add that I can get plenty of items in my truck bed (wood, generators, 55g drums for hauling grey and freash water, etc). I prefer the hook up with the fifth wheel over the bumper hitch. Either way, like others have said, go for it, you and family will love it.
A travel trailer is the reason I bought my 2012 F350. We'll eventually be towing a 30' Arctic Fox 25Y. I'm 42 and my wife is 39. Some consider that young for this sort of thing but we love travel and it is great to have your own hotel behind you All the comforts of home.
Like others have said, go for it. I've pulled several TTs, even with my 5.4L, and never had an issue. That Catalina looks nice. I dig the exterior kitchen with beer fridge.
I pulled a TT for years and it worked very well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Try it with what you have, if sways around buy the sway control hitch. I don't think you will have a problem.

It all depends on how much bed space you need in my opinion. Not sure if I found photos of your unit on the website but I do find fiberglass sides to be easier to maintain. The only other thing I can think of right now is if your campsite looks like this....
.....the landing gear on a fifth wheel gives you a bit more ablity to level the RV out. The travel trailer in front of our fiver had to dig a hole under his hitch and use a high lift to pick it up off the ball. I'm six foot and was in no danger of hitting my head under the front bedroom on ours. Our camping requires support trucks anyway so the loss of bed space doesn't matter to much to us.
