1985 Bronco ignition problem

Alright so about a year ago the ignition rod that the key pushes to engage the ignition switch snapped and i replaced it which was a huge cluster F!@#$ in the colum. Anyway, when i put everything back together, it worked great for about 2 days then stopped working and only would turn auxillery on but not engage the starter. I just rigged a starter switch under the dash because i was frustrated haha. Now i am determined to fix it, i put a new ignition switch in it and it did not fix the problem. I thought maybe the rod wasn't pushing the switch in far enough so I put a screw driver in there and bottomed out the switch and it still did not engage the starter Solenoid is still good. Any Ideas?
