I bought my truck used and there was this thermostat in the glove box. I live in Canada and the winter temps can get pretty low (over-10 F). I am assuming that the X192 means that the thermostat opens at 192 degrees. So what I am wondering is what does a stock thermostat open at. My work is only a 10 minute drive so I would like my truck to run a bit hotter in the winter.
The thermostat has X192, 16 and LO stamped on it. I have a picture of it but I can't figure out how to unload it on here.
Diesels don't like short drives like that in winter. They never fully warm up!
But yes, stock is 192, and if your not overheating, or running to cold, chances are you have the right one in there, as only a Ford or IH thermostat will work right in these engines.
And with how much trouble it is changing a thermostat in these, I sure wouldn't bother changing it seasonally!
But heres an easy to install/remove winter thermostat
Alright thanks. I do realize that short trips in cold weather are hard on engines, specially diesels. I am currently running the exact same winter cover as you with the flaps closed.
