I seek a short carb - one that's not very tall, but has better flow than stock.
The EB has lill head room (read "hood" ) and I found a coupla 'low rise' carbs (Autolite, Carter RBS) that have the proper boar for the 250 I'd fit it to. Reason - stock. I wuz thinkin (friends say,"stop that Chad, U all ways create trouble then") a 240 or 300 carb would give a lill oopmh to a 250... not sure on bolt pattern or boar. The later I could take a file to the mount & open it up a lill (I'm thinkin a 1/4 inch difference would B alright). Can't afford the time/$ to do much (I can think of) if the 2 bolt holes are off. The stock YF, YAF on the trucks seems way too high for my hood... I'd even consider a throttle body type set up if it fit a "low riser".
Thanks,
may this be your best year ever!
is the problem the height of the carb, or the height of the air cleaner?
if its the cleaner, you can get "low-rise" air cleaners that may help out, and broaden your choice of carb.
I got some kinda stock ac that sits beside the valve cover down low on a housing that came w/it. I may have to adapt that depending on what's eventually found. Still it chrunches against the hood.
No, the top lip of the carb hat that holds the ac on will hit the hood. It's the carb. I need a body lift...but still seek a carb to fit that tight space.
(I like the 2V pinto progressive Holley due to gas miserly till trompin the gas peddle - the 2nd opens. But I hear the large 1V better on low rev Tq, it's too high, & a 2V).
How bout a later model when the 300 went 4.9 and efi? Is the throttle body a low rise type`a thing? It seems like there would be a short something in that 30 or so year run of the "gasser that's a diesel". Industrial apps may B? I wanna stay with gasoline, that's about my only requirement beside, fit, low, & I think 1V (due to my interest in low rev tq) or efi may B? U can C I don't have alot of automotive theory...
With the efi setup..its not just a mere throttlebody..it consists of the intake/throttlebody that sits high up and runners thqt feed the intake. It's bigger and more clunky than a carb
that's right - the intake or plenum, whatever it's called. But hey, wait, wasn't there something in the 80's when I 1st saw them where there was just something stuck down the boar like a jet. Before those big plenums'n runners evolved I thought...
On the other hand, what are the carbs that fit the 300? YF (early) & YAF (later) I'm pretty sure. Nothing low like the Carter RBS (on the 250, only, I think). Any of the moders using something non-stock but still 1V?
