I have done a search within the forum but cannot find any info where someone has successfully found a modern day replacement wiper motor or wiper assy so that those of us that have converted to 12 volts can still run our wipers with some success.
I know that there are kits avail but they are high in price and I would prefer to not rely on a catalog to put my truck together.
Surely I cant be the only one. If anyone has any ideas on what might work I would appreciate the input.
Here is my original 6 volt system. I can and will use my linkages and can fabricate just about anything.
I opted to go for the pricey specialty wiper kit at Mid-Fifty. I had no wiper motor or hardware at all as I started with a bare cab and frame only.
The kit was $359.00 but it is a cable drive system that mounts inside the cab with the drive mechanisms hidden under the dash and the super quite motor mounted in my passenger wheel well. Everything is hidden and out of the way of my Vintage Air system.
Expensive but I live on the Rainy British Columbia west coast and will be driving my truck full time rain or shine, it was variable speed and intermittent settings.
There are a couple of photos of the mounting in my build gallery but can post more if required.

Thanks but again I do not wish to spend this kind of money
Is this 90 only and is there any way you are able to number the photos, hard to see where to begin with what you have done because the first picture seems to be in the middle of the procedure.

When it comes to things like this, if I have to fly off on a wild goose chase and drive to various boneyards, auto parts, etc. looking for various pieces, I have to take off work to do it. So that costs me money. Then if I factor in the gas it takes to drive around looking for a needle in a haystack, and the inevitable food I'll throw down my neck during the process as well as the "incidental" purchases I "just had to have", I must ask myself am I truly saving money. Will you truly save yourself enough money to justify doing this completely from scratch and "not relying on a catalog" after it's all said and done? Think about it....

I am enjoying my time/effort spent and in the end I will have experienced/learned new things and that cant be purchased from a catalog.

Doc, Doc, Doc you're looking at it all wrong. First, have you ever saved any money on a vehicle of any vintage? It's all about the adventure whether it's sitting at your computer searching numerous discussion boards or hopping in you car and heading off to the far corners of the state to scrounge through some backwoods junk yard. I stumbled upon "deals" but never saved any money on my parts, I've spent money but never saved money. Some times the road trip in itself is worth a lot. Spending time with a buddy away from the wife for a day, or with her, depending on your desire, is worth a lot to me. I also use a road trip as a pressure release. The only thing that usually holds me back is the gas. I always have the weigh the cost of that.
Now, if you post on this boarding looking for a part and some one offers you the part for $XX and you don't jump on it thinking the price is too high and you'd rather drive all over the country chasing the "needle in a haystack" part, now I think that's pretty foolish. You basically have a bird in the hand but rather shake the bushes to see if you can get deal. I've offered parts to people at what I thought was a reasonable price and have been turned down because the person thought I was too high. I've seen many posts on this board like this. Many people it seems don't reallize us guys who buy up parts trucks have a lot invested in these trucks, the initial purchase price, gas and time, and usually we're lucky if we can make a few bucks.
I followed das54's method to achieve wipers. I located a 81 Jeep Larado wiper motor and switch, given to me for free. I somehow found a 51 f2 double wiper transmission arm in my parts stash. I am happy to say that this system works like a charm on my 49 which only had a wiper on one side originally. I now have two speeds and dual wipers. With a little bit of fiddleing it went in really easy. I highly recommend doing it this way, really cheap compared to the after market offering.
