this thing is local to me, just wondering what it started as since its obviously not stock. VIN in the ad doesnt seem to be complete, so just wondering yalls take on this thing?
In the VIN it is only missing the F in the front it should say F15GKAE0973 meaning F150 2wd with a 302. The doors must be from a different vehicle and he didn't cross check the VIN from the doors and the VIN on the frame. But then again this is what I'm thinking, not 100% tho.
I would definintely STAY AWAY from that truck. It is the wrong VIN. The VIN decodes (adding the missing "F") F15 F150 2WD pick up, G 302 2bbl V8, K Kansas City Assy Plant, AE0973 Early '78 model year s/n.
Ford never made an F150 crew cab, let alone a 4WD F150 CC.
If it was anywhere close to accurate the VIN would start with F26.
If I was close by I'd go look at it and get the FRAME VIN and see what it really is. Problem with the truck is, I'll guarantee the frame isn't going to match the warranty plate and legally most states require the frame VIN for title purposes.
Plus the dealer is in Iowa and in the add they talk about being license and bonded in Florida.
Way too many questions.....stay away.
But then again this is what I'm thinking, not 100% tho.
You can be 100% certain Mudrat, there are way too many questions with this sketchy VIN.
I'm sure the VIN on the warranty plate will match the title and that's the problem, it shouldn't.
It could be a nice looking "frankentruck" or it could be a nice looking "STOLEN" F250 crew cab.
Won't know unless the frame VIN is checked.
I'll give him a call tomorrow and laugh at him on the phone. Also, can't he be SCREWED over for having the wrong VIN on the truck.

Thanks Mike for the clarification!
Dealers should be knowledgeable about the vehicles they sell, unfortunately that's not a legal requirement.
They "should" check the frame VIN but I doubt more than a few, if any, actually do.
Just about any of us here realize there's something fishy about the VIN but a typical dealer won't. As long as the VIN "plate" matches the title, they're good.
Yeah, the dealer could be "screwed" with one vehicle but I doubt anything would happen to them. They would claim (maybe rightfully so) that they were victims of a dishonest seller and didn't know. But if there's a pattern of "mistakes" on the VINs, or a series of dishonest sellers involving the same dealer then the state DMV and police would probably get involved.
Their used to be a guy out in western Nebraska the built F150 crew cabs by useing F250 crew cabs & lengthing the frames.
My step brother bought one a few years back from he guy. Pretty sure Adams started out as a 351m 2wd also.
Just throwing that out their. That frame VIN mite just match the door plate if it was one of the one's he built
What's really weird is that it looks to have a correct F150 4X4 frame under it....? Coils, f150 4x4 cross member and what look like factory welded in coil buckets. Truck does look nice, not 26K nice, but nice non the less.
Truck looks nice, but too much of a Frankentruck to be worth that much and I'd be skeptical too. Also, for over 26K, you would think that an A/C compressor would be there and the engine a little more detailed which makes me think that there is probably some questionable bodywork done to it.
It looks like someone just went crazy with black spray paint. There is over spray everywhere under the hood. 26k is absolutely insane. For 26k I would expect the truck to be in better than new condition, which this one does not appear to be in. Plus it has a sketchy VIN...

How could it possibly have the correct frame, since FoMoCo didn't offer an F150 Crew Cab until the late 1990's?
It's a cobbled up Frankenstein monster with parts from lawd only knows what.
I like the paint and interior , but the rest is not so good. That engine bay looks like it's been 10 years since the hood was lifted , pretty dirty with lot's of black paint over spray. Makes you wonder how well it's been maintained , oil checked, changed ect. They could have at least wiped the crud of of the engine, the air comp. missing too. Even if it has a good clear title it's well over priced. To bad Ford never made a few with that body and chassis but i don't believe they did.
