Hey guys, me and my friend recently decided that we're going to do a pull off. He drives a 1993 gmc with the 5.7. I have a 1992 f150 5.0. I'm looking for maximum horsepower gain for under 500 dollars anything will help thanks
A tug of war is NOT a measure of performance. It's a measure of driver well.. How to put it nicely... Idiocy? All you're going to do is possibly break one or both of the trucks. If you really want to show him how great your truck is brag when he throws his transmission and you're still going down the road. Brag when he's sitting on the side of the road with a bad rear end and you're still going. In 1996 my dad worked for a company that sold spray-coupe sprayers. They had a '94, and a '95 C1500 with the 350/auto trans. They also had a '88 F150 with the 302/aod combo. The Ford had well over 200k miles on it and was still going strong while the two chevies blew their transmission at around 95k miles. Dad gloated about that for weeks while the die-hard chevy driver mechanics had to drive 'his' ford.
if your using a 4x4 make it a rule to only use 2wd and put yours in 4 low with hubs unlocked and find some bogger style tires to borrow the wider the better you need width for traction and the shorter the tire the more usable torque and like khadma said hold your brakes while he takes off and let him get spinning then lay into that 302 and pull him like crazy...... pulling is all about traction, weight, and power...... if you can find out how much his truck weighs and how much yours weighs and if he has a 3/4 ton chances are he will win just because of all the extra weight and heavier duty trucks have lower gear ratios if it was me gonna do the pulling contest with $500 to spend on it i would find a junkyard with a truck like yours and find the lowest gearing you could for your rearend 3.73-4.10 would be what i would aim for and borrow some 31x12.50 r15 boggers just my opinion from me doing this myself
OR you can decide to not risk breaking your truck acting stupid and keep $500 bucks in your pocket... And you don't need HP in a pulling contest... Its all about traction and torque...
I agree with the others, such a thing is stupid and is generally reserved for the testosterone-filled but immature children who want to impress their friends.
do it once and get it out of your system! Dont listen to everyone.....weve all been there at least once before. Its a guy thing. Weve all done it once (at least i have) and wont do it again. But when you break something cant say we didnt warn ya!
P.s. HOLY GOOD LORD! That chevy just.......crumbled!
