5.4 vacuum line

Hi, all I had mentioned this in my previous post about a misfire problem but thought I might should start a new thread since this is different issue.

1999 F-150 4x4 Auto 5.4 176,000

On the back of my intake toward firewall there is a 3/4 hose barb. the hose is plugged off. It had a leak so I cut it off shorter and plugged again. Question is does this hose need to be connected to anything. By the diagram underhood (it's partially missing) looks like it went to a canister that also had a vent line from fuel tank connected to it. There is no canister, could have been removed by previous owner. Can anyone tell me where this line originally went and its purpose?Should I just leave it plugged or do I need to get canister and re-connect, if that is how it was originally?

I know this is an old post, I had a similar set up, the port was open completely, I think whatever was blocking the hole came off, I plugged it with heater hose and a bung. What did you use?

I just used a short piece of hose plugged with a bolt and hose clamp. Mine still had hose on it but had big crack in it. Looked several times for vacuum leak before i made a smoke tester and found the leak behind intake.

is it in the center of the back of the manifold? If so, that is the PCV hose. Where does the PCV hose on the left (pass side) of the valve cover go.
