vacuum hose broken

While looking under my daughters 92 F150 (5.0L), I noticed a vacuum hose on the rear axle (drives side). It was broken off. It comes off of a device that has a metal piece coming on each side of it running to the hub (i'm guess it's brake fluid). Anyways, The strange thing is that this vacuum hose (if it was connected) doesn't seem to connect anywhere. I followed the piece that was broken and it just runs on the drivers side and then stops. It's not connected.

My guess is that this is a vent hose of some sort.

I don't know much about that particular year, but that sounds like the vent hose on my '87.

You would know if you had a broken brake line.

Yep, vent hose. You can use a piece of rubber fuel line or vaccum hose as a replacement easily enough. Hose clamp it on the differential and snake it the same way if you wish. Or, just lie it on top of the gas tank for a shorter run. It just has to end above the differential so hot air can escape, and not suck anything in when it cools.

O.K. Thanks for the help. I'm not sure how long it's been like that. Could anything be damaged, or should I just replace the hose and move on?
