running a K&N filter is about the same as running no filter at all. return it and get your money back.
K&N filters only block large particles. they let all the fines pass through resulting in a dusted engine.

They filter 80% of the air going into your engine perfectly
FYI, this is one of those topics that you can ask 100 different people and get 100 different answers (like asking what kind of oil to run). Myself, I've run K&N air filters in all my vehicles for decades now with no bad results. Then again, I've never owned a vehicle long enough to warrant the engine teardown that would be needed to prove the ill effects (if any) of a K&N.
Actually, I did have one bad K&N air filter experience once. I bought my dad a K&N for his newer vehicle, and the filter was so heavily oiled from the factory that it clogged up the MAF sensor and caused the car to run like crap. We took the K&N out, cleaned it, oiled it (with a much lighter coat), cleaned the MAF, and all was well. Of course, you don't have to worry about a MAF on our trucks, but I figured it was worth sharing so I didn't come off sounding COMPLETELY biased.
i saw a K&N filter destroy a turbo and wipe out the cylinder walls on a 7.3 IDI after 4 months running in a silica pit.
they put it on the fresh engine because they were told how good those crap filters were.
needless to say, the K+N filters were removed from everything after that.
