I went to Hollister Hills to go dirt biking today. Typing seems to be the only thing that doesn't remind me of a sore body part! I hadn't gone in 2 years so I'm going to feel this one for at least a week. I'm getting too old for this! (41) Weather was perfect, right between too cold and too warm.
The early 99 Powerstroke ran like a champ. Hard to believe that in a couple weeks it will be 14 years and nearly 300,000 miles since I bought it in Feb 1999. It had 49 miles on the OD that day!
Last time I was at Hollister Hills was in 1976 When we were riding bikes like the TM suzukis, Elsinore Hondas, and converted Ducati's. I am now 64 and have moved on to a more docile Yamaha Raptor. Even tho it has been 36 years since H.H. I still remember some of the killer hill climbs there. I have planned a trip back there many times but never made it. Now at my age I think I should stick to places like Sand Mountain. More forgiving ground when that inevitable crash arrives. I'm currently Towing my 28 ft. toyhauler with my '96 ford F250 7.3 or my '56 Ford crew cab dually Cabover w/ 460. The 7.3 now has 256,XXX miles. Was rebuilt at 194,XXX, not because it was bad but as a precaution against breakdowns when my daughter was hauling her hourse around to different shows. I've owned several newer 7.3s and V-10s But this truck remains one of my favorites.

I bet nearly everything is the same as it was 35 years ago! Same hill climbs and still only $5 for a truck load of dirt bikes for the day.

Yawn. Can't beat sand? Sand is the most boring thing in the world aside from asphalt to ride on isn't it? Maybe if I had a quad..

I said at 64 I should stick with riding in the sand. I didn't say I don't ride in the dirt. I have a F.I. Yamaha 700 Raptor with the stage 4 trinity kit. I manage to keep up with my son in law and his friends on there KX's and CRF's just fine. We have some of the best dirt riding right in our back yard. The Feather River Canyon. Places like Fall River, French Creek, Ladoga, and Stonyford. I started riding dirt in the 60's on a 305 Honda Scrambler and never stopped. Still I prefer places like Sand Mountain and Florence, Oregon with the clean sand and Difficult climbs. Squirting and jumping over and around Massive dunes is every bit as exciting as eating dirt and brush. I feel just as wrung out after a day in the sand as I do with dirt riding, wheather it be on a 2 or 4-wheeler. I should also apologize for addressing this topic here as I know this is a Ford forum. I Ask that you click on my Garage and let me know what you think of my current Ford project. Thanks
Morning everybody and of course my frozen buddy Giggers!! Damn that's cold, I wouldn't want to go to school either.
Do you think when a snowman looks up at falling snowflakes he is thinking `stemcells`?

Thanks for the info. I just looked at his pic's. Nice rig. I'm partial to the 56's. I still have the twin to the truck I started with sitting in my yard. Thinking of selling it. Getting to old to start another project. I already have a 56 F350 extended cab i'm working on. Am curious as to which motor/trans. he used. I'm trying to find measurements of 6bt cummins to see if it will fit under back seat where 460 is now.
