Pat, I'm just trying to keep my head above water. Lots of work to do... not much motivation to do anything.
Last week I found out that our department budget is looking really gloomy. The word used was "dire". Since I've been here just under 10 years I'm one of the newest hires. I have a really good chance of being laid off this fall/winter. That tidbit of info didn't do anything for my morale. All I can do is keep my head down and hang on.

That's not good..........Maybe they will lay off the slackers?
Not very well. There's a huge mountain range between us......Just saying.....
Discontinued..................creating a vacuum that sucked even more clouds in off of the Pacific. Might just as well face the facts and go out and put the plug in the duck pond dike.
We have weird weather patterns here. The mountains form a V around us where the Grand Ronde Valley opens into the Willamette Valley. Sometimes times the storms follow the mountains to the south or north and leave us alone. We can have sunshine here while a deluge is going on at the farm 4 miles (as the birds fly) to the south. The rest of the time, we just take the boat to the grocery store!
Geez Tiny. Been there so I know the pit you are feeling in your gut right now. Seemed like every couple of budget years they would line us up along with some firemen, take our picture then plaster it on the front page of the newspaper with a black X across those who would go away if the budget didn't pass.
According to FEMA and the Flood Zone map, I should have been under water or at least fishing from my front porch at least 3 or 4 times since we bought this place. Something like two 100 year events and either 2 or 3 50 year events have taken place in just 18 years.
The problem is that the only places that have gotten wet are the folks to our south who are not supposed to be in the flood zone at all or the people to our north on the river bank itself. The water has not gotten within casting range of the front porch yet.

Tiny, hate hearing that. Hopefully things will work out.
Don, have a good day!

Thanks guys. Not much I can do. I don't want to leave I really like working here. I've learned that not knowing is sometimes better than knowing how things will work out.
Budget stuff isn't going to work this issue out. We are funded entirely by fuel taxes. More fuel efficient cars, bikes and the flood of hybrids are doing nothing for our "road funds". Unfortunately they all use the roads that aren't being adequately funded.
As it stands now we are down to a skeleton crew. There are so few people left that it's becoming very dificult to get projects done let alone perform basic maintainence on roads.
Evening everyone.
Found the problem with the 'sploder. In it's previous life before me, someone replaced 1 headgasket. They reused the cracked head.
other head still had the fomoco gasket.
I rolled in a new set of bearings, put on a fresh oil pump and closed her up. I'm putting the new aftermarket heads on it tonight, and sticking it back in tomorrow. Should run like a new car!
Gotta love dishonest garages.
I got the car from an old friend of Janet's, and I know the garage where they had all of their work done
All of the work I put into this car, I would NEVER have that shop work on anything of mine.
I doubt I would even let them clean the attack cat's poo box....
Afternoon Charlie. Glad it wasn't a major job and you'll be running tomorrow!
I got a call from a customer this morning. He said his chebby truck made a "bang" noise and started shaking so he turned it off and called me. Broken crankshaft snout. Truck is DOA.........
He just had a new seal put on the dampner in Portland last week. I found a broken bolt in the front of the crank. He is NOT happy.......

The "mechanic" Put the damper back on with a hammer. I used to see that all the time. Look at the damper under the pulley, you'll see what happened. Someone owes him a motor
It sucks, the tool kit for installing the damper costs $40/
