I just brought home a new Ex. It has a couple of issues but the price was right. I have a lot of forum reading to do over the next little while.
The seller put on some 20" wheels. I am not sure what year F250 they came from but they look pretty nice IMO. It has some cosmetic stuff that needs to be tended to. It has 130k, V10, 2wd Limited. Any advice on where to get started?
Also, I would get rid of those '00-'01 headlight housings and switch in some '02-'04 headlight housings. I did this on mine and the lighting improvement was tremendous.
You could also switch in the '05-'07 headlights but there are some modifications that need to happen for them fit; the '02-'04 housing drop right in.
You guys saw the same thing I did....wheels don't have spacers! I can't believe they don't rub when turning! There was a guy down here near College Station that had the GOOD wheel spacers for sale a while back. On CL...
Thanks for the comments!! The tires actually do rub just a little just before full lock. Some wheel spacers will be in order soon. I don't really need the crossbars on the roof either so those will be coming off too.
I think this evening I'll give it a dose of holy water (sea foam). Everything is completely stock. I just picked up some rear hatch lift supports. That sucker is heavy! The rear view mirror is missing in action and I have one coming from eBay. The driver's door lock actuator will need to be replaced. Do you think I should go ahead and get the whole set? I figure if one is bad then they are probably all going to be bad soon.
I also agree on the headlights. They are fogged over and look outdated. Thanks for the advice on that too. Maybe I'll go ahead and locate some '05-'07's but then the grill will look outdated. Add it to the list.
Exhaust and intake will need to find its way on the list sooner or later. I still have a bit if reading to do.
You can rebuild the actuators yourself. Most that have done it, have had success with it. I've tried to post a link but keep getting a 'data base error' message.
Also I totally deleted my roof rack. I put o-rings that fit snug against the screw and inside the hole of all the mounting bolts. Several heavy storms later and still no leaks.
I wouldn't waste money on an intake for the V10; you won't gain much if anything at all. What you will gain is more crap getting into your engine because of less filtering efficiency.
I've had a few days now to get to know the Ex. Great write up on the door locks. I will save the money for the new actuators and get the wheel spacers. I might be the first one to compliment the excursion's fuel economy. I did a 200 mile round trip with my wife and son. We cruised at about 68 mph most of the way. I averaged 15.9 mpg! Not bad at all.
I have made the same trip in my Jeep Grand Cherokee (5.2 V8 with some stuff) and I usually get about 11-12 mpg.
I paid a total of $4500 for the Excursion. I have no complaints for that price.
So far I have replaced the rear hatch supports, replaced the wipers, and washed it. My wife is also in love with it. Thanks again for all the excellent write-ups. I may be adding a couple in the near future.

Thanks, more money saved! What filter do you suggest? I am used to just using a K&N
