Starter problems

Hi,everyone.I am new here and I hope I have this in the right category.I just bought a 1981 F150,351M-automatic.When I start it ,the starter stays engaged and running even after I turn the key off.The only way I can stop the starter is to remove -battery cable from battery post ,but if I try to put cable back on.it sparks.

Sounds like it needs to either be rebuilt or replaced.

I believe when the solenoid goes bad, its fails to disengage the starter gear. I may be wrong, but then again I'm no expert.

Don't buy a starter, it's working fine.
Replace the solenoid, the contacts are sticking in it.

try pulling the wire off the terminal marked S if it still acts up replace the solenoid if it doesnt first try switching the S and I terminals(if it has a wire on the I terminal) if not replace the ignition switch
