I am having problems with my starter(93 Ford Bronco). One day last week the truck would not start. All it would click. So I replaced the starter solenoid on the inner fender. It still would not start after that. So i hit the starter a few times and it started up. While i was under the truck hitting the starter i noticed that the one wire going to the tab was bare wire for about 3-4 inches. So I got the truck home.
I had recently bought a new battery cable set that was used in police vehicles. It had a new positive battery cable, negative battery cable, and the two cables going to the starter. These new cables are heavier gauge wire.
I decided to replace the positive battery cable and the two cables going to the starter(Since the one cable was shot anyway). One I got the new cables in I started the truck, and the starter motor kept spinning for about 5-10 seconds after the truck had started. I then replaced the starter solenoid and the ignition switch as per what i had read in other posts. The same thing happened.
I removed the starter and took it to get tested. They had said that the starter motor was working 50% of the time like it should. They said that the gear was retracting slowly the other 50%. So i replaced the starter with a new starter, not a reman. Now that the new starter is in, it is still doing the same thing. Its just not spinning as long as before.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be my problem? Could I have gotten a bad starter? Thanks
check all your wires to see if they are touching anywhere. if thats not it i would really try to get ahold of a good wire set off another 92-96 bronco.

The cables are NEW and were used for Police/ Special Service Broncos. Basically had heavier gauge wire to handle all of the electronics in the vehicles.
hmmm ok. ya thats where i would start..highly doubt that your getting bad starters. maybe something with your ignition is making it stay engaged?
Man i feel like an idiot right now. Well you have helped a bunch. This new wiring is run a little different than the original. I had the one wire from the new wiring on the wrong side of the solenoid. I switched it to the other and it started right up and the starter operated just like it should have.
Once again Mikeismadness, Thank You for your help.
