How can you tell if your hinges are sprung. What do they look like if they are sprung?
They may not look any different, depending on how bad the damage is. Sprung is another word for bent or mis-aligned. If your door doesn't move freely when opening or closing, as if something is in a bind and fighting you, then you'll know. But don't mistake that with simple stiff and rusty hinges. Be sure they're lubed good, preferably with something better than WD40.
The passinger door on my '50 F-1 would not close properly even with all the strikers removed and would bind up during the last inch or so berore fully closing An inspection showed that it was sagging about about 3/8 of an inch at the rear. I also used the "wedge" method as described in the manual and it worked great for me.

WD40 is the most over hyped and mis-used product on the market! If it was used only for what it was made for it would have faded into obscurity a long time ago. It was design to displace water (Water Displacing) on the surface of early nuclear missile fuel tanks to keep the thin metal from corroding. It was never meant to be used as a penetrating or lubricating oil! The exact formula is secret, but analysis shows it is 51% solvent, composed of a mix of mineral spirits, turpentine and alchohol; 25% propellent gas; 15% light mineral oil, basically baby oil; 9% inert ingredients. It is neither a good penetrating or lubricating oil (unless mother's are loosening or lubing their baby's bottoms!).

Our hinges are pretty damn stout. In my experience, they tend to bind and spring everything they are attached to before they would ever bend, I have a spare door that has a bent jamb, caused by a siezed hinge.
And I have found WD40 is good for softening new door seals lol. Does an OK job of removing tar too. It's crap for about anything else IMO.
