Hi Ford Friends,
Last fall I replaced the door seal on the drivers door, it since has to be slammed in order to latch completly (prior to seal replacement, all that was needed was a one finger push to shut the door). I thought the new seal just needed to "break in", but as it has been over 6 months, I'm wondering if I should adjust the hinges? The hinges are in decent shape, less than an 1/4 inch play. Any procedures any one has on adjusting the door will be greatly appreciated. The last time I adjusted a door it was a real pain (I guess I dont know the little tricks needed). Thanks! -- Mike
The truck I just purchased has had its door seals replaced by the previous owner. I'm not sure when. It takes a bit more effort to close, but I don't need to "slam" them. I'm not worried enough to try and make any adjustments.
The other thing to check is whether the door closes easier with the other door open or a window down etc. I replaced the door seals on my truck and the cab is now so air tight that the door is hard to close but only when everything else is already closed; with a window down no problem. In that case, no adjustment is necessary. I would be concerned that if you introduce too much slack in the door latch you'll effectively undo the benefit of the new seals.
