ECM Rollback

Would this be worth the money to do?
Power Hungry Performance ECM Rollback, Ford (2003-07) 6.0L Power Stroke, Modified File

I have an 06 F350 with a 6.0L and the most resent flash. Are there any
advantage in doing the rollback? My other option would be to get my
own STC and program from Matt at Gearhead. What is the better option?

I plan on leaving the EGR intact and add a BPD cooler. In looking at the PHP
info I see that you can delete the EGR or keep it. I don't have studs yet.

One plus I see with the STC system is you can restore the factory program
if you need to take it in for service or the sniff station.

How much of a headache would it be to run an 06 with the older programming
that has more power and better MPG? I am not looking to pop the heads off

Would it be easier to send the FICM to Ed and get the STC from Matt with a mild tune?

I sent my ficm and a extra one to him for the payment of the Atlas40 program and I will have to say there is a difference in power for sure. Not a huge gain but it has more power for sure especially at higher end it keeps pulling.
Big surprise to me was a solid 2 mile per gallon increase on the highway. I like the gain in power and it goes down the highway cheaper too, win win situation for me getting 16.7 on the highway at 70 mph never seen it over 14 before.
Recommend it for sure, strange how something that makes more power also makes for better fuel milage

An ECM rollback and an SCT tune aren't the same thing and FICM tuning is totally different than both.

An ECM rollback completely reprograms the computer to a different and usually earlier strategy. An SCT tune modifies your current strategy without changing it.

I have the Gryphon FICM tuner with ECM rollback and 25hp tow safe tune from PHP. I'm running the Atlas 80hp FICM tune. I love it! The out of the hole performance is great. I'm also getting about 3 more MPG's. Best thing I have done to the truck.

I guess I am asking for more details.
What did you rollback to ? andI take it
the FICM tune is the Atlas 80?
Also What I was thinking is do the rollback and get the STC
unit and have Matt set me up with a tune that takes the EGR
out electronically and just leave the parts in place. I was thinking of the
Atlas 40 when I send the FICM to Ed
What I am thinking is more MPG and not loose and HP would be good for what I want.
Head studs are on the to do list

I had Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER! set me up with a Gryphon tuner with 4 FICM Atlas tunes I can choose from. I had them check my PCM to see what strategy that it was flashed to. They said it was not the worst one but they could do better. I also had them install a PCM 25HP heavy tow tune with a EGR delete. The Gryphon is either a FICM or a PCM tuner when you buy it but they can switch it back and forth. I chose the FICM because I wanted to get rid of my turbo lag that I had. I would call them with your questions and or go the there forum. They are the ones that wrote the programs that Ed installs on the FICMs. My truck was dog off the start but now runs like a striped a$$ ape and gets better MPG's. Eric

Just browsing the different sites it seems most rollback (or forward) to the VXCF4 strategy. VXCF7 is considered the worst it seems and VXCF9 is the latest and also the MPG killer.

Here is were I'm confused,,, you had them use the Gryphon FICM tuner to get the rollback with a 25 hp program this I understand but where did the 80 hp come from is that an SCT tune? or do you have to call Ed to switch back and forth between the 25 and 80 tunes. I think the Gryphon is great and in my future but I am still learning.

Check out this page Power Hungry Performance - FICM Reprogramming You can get the tune or tunes three ways that I can think of 1. Buy a Gryphon tuner from PHP with the four tunes ( economy, Atlas 40, Atlas 80, and Hercules). 2. PHP has a several loner Gryphons. They can send you one and you pick one of the 4 tunes and send the Gryphon back. 3. You can send your FICM to Ed and he can load the tune of you choose and he will send it back quickly. You can only change the tune with option 1. Option 2 & 3 you have to pay again I believe. When I tow my 18K lbs trailor I install the economy tune. I think you could also do a ECM rollback if you get the loner Gryphon, I was going to do that but I didn't want to wait for the loner (3-4 weeks at the time). I got the Gryphon in less than a week. The folks are really nice to deal with and Bill know his stuff. Give them a call.

Also if you own the Gryphon you can move it to another 6.0. It only works on one at a time though.

Thanks for the explanation, I've been looking at that sale price it's made it tempting. I agree completely about Bill and the crew there they know what they are doing.
