Anyone with his tunes, did you contact him directly? Anyone know his contact info? What tunes are you all running? I am looking for more power and better shifting for my 06 while towing. Then I want two good street tunes. Which gets better mileage, the street tune Or the econ?

Any comments on his tunes?

I emailed them and that's like a general contract. I got an email back from a woman named Jamie and a list of tunes available. I want to know some specifics, like how does it effect fan operation with an EGR delete if they have figured that out yet or not. What tune will yield the best fuel economy if driven sensibly etc

Who did you go with? It is 165 with 3 tunes. I thought that it was 100 or so for 3

I use the SCT X3 with custom tunes written by Matt at Gearhead Automotive Performance.
He will want to know some specific info about your truck, IE: head studs, EGR intact, other mods, gears, transmisson etc, PCM strategy (once you plug the SCT in it can pull the PCM data) and will custom write tunes that will work best with what you've got to start with. He'll email them to you and you load them onto your tuner and then your truck. As you add mods you can go back and update the tunes to best fit your truck capabilities and operating needs.

Gearhead and others as mentioned earlier have good reputations on here and will not steer you wrong, if you have a problem with your tuner or tunes, they'll make it right.

Check them out at Gearhead Automotive Performance

Good luck!

I went with Gearhead Automotive Performance.

I originally purchased the SRL, 8k Tow and Unlimited Tow

I now have the SRL+ and Extreme as well.

Yeah,I would kind of like details. They have a 10k tow tune with a Jake brake like. It opens and closes the turbo vanes to help slow the truck. Recommend using that tune?

I picked up the phone and called them. I'm running his tunes, I also have an 06. I'm running the tow brake tune which is excellent for towing my camper trailer which is about 8K lbs. Fan operation will be at normal temps. All of his tunes I have street, xtreme street, and tow brake. All of them have the EGR turned off. Fuel economy just keep your foot out of it, your not driving a prius. Depending on my mood I switch them up from time to time. If I have the extreme street I tend to keep my foot into it. Right now I'm driving around on the street tune and I like it.

Yes I've used it towing my camper trailer in VT. Coming down Rt 89 south I was actually able to slow down going down hill when I took my foot off of the gas pedal instead of speeding up.

How do you like the Jake feature? Kind of weary about the wear on the turbo from the extra stress

It's not like an 18 wheeler jake brake, you don't hear it. I love it while towing my trailer. Read up on these online forums. I read multiple forums and did alot of research before I went with innovative diesels tunes (Eric). If you are concerned call them and ask questions thats what I did. I was on the phone for 30 min asking questions and told them what I was going to be doing with my truck. Whenever I tow my camper trailer I always switch to tow brake. I was busy and didn't have time to switch 1 time and used the stock tune. I could not believe the difference. Once I got to the campground I switched over to tow brake. I'll never tow again with the stock tune it's terrible.
