I saw a van the other day that had rear doors on hinges similar to our barn doors. Looks like they made, or bought, some type of mount that fit into the hinges and it was a rear spare tire mount. Anyone ever do this using the OEM hinges?
I've seen these mounted on many van bodies over the years and looks to me to be hard on hinges that were never designed to carry that much weight. Plus they all had some bracket mounted to the sheetmetal to hold the tire mount closed. Not sure I would want to do this to X doors.
cameeks showed up the right way.
A big wheel/tire combination easily weights about 45kg/100lbs on one side and about 160lbs if you plan to put on three jerry cans.
I would NOT recomment do put this extra weight to the OEM door hinges.
A extra rear bumper with additional mounting points (as shown in the pic)
is the only way in my opinion.
more clearly
there are additional types like Seans (wpnaes) for the receiver hitch

Sorry to revive a dead topic, but I'm looking to get an Ex and would like to throw this setup on mine. Can you tell me the brand(s)? The link send me to something similar but it has a box instead of Jerry can holder
