dual exhaust legal?
hi all, was wondering if I was to change my exhuast on my 98 ranger from single exhuast to dual with the addition of another cat would it still be legal for inspection reason for the question is that I heard it was illegal even though my local speed shop would do it without any questions asked.I was planning on headers and a free flow exhaust installed for $900.Is the price about right?by the way I live in New Jersey.thank you for any responses

I'm not sure about New Jersey, but knowing how liberal they are about gun laws, I would check it out before you do it.
If I'm not mistaken (and I could be), here in Texas if your vehicle does not come with an option of true dual exhaust from the factory, you cannot put it on the vehicle, even with the extra CAT.
The muffler shops will do pretty much anything you want, but if you can't get it inspected you will be SOL.
I would think that a Single in/ dual out is ok though.

Hey, if you want your ranger to sound good. Just leave the factory cats and cut off the muffler and have a y pipe installed with no muffler and straight pipes out the back or side, whichever you like. My buddie has this on his ranger and it is sweet. Not to loud not to guiet, very nice. This set up will aslo keep you legal with no problems at inspection time. It sould only cost you 300 at the most to get this done.
