I've tried quite a few and know allot of peopel that have used other brands, but when it comes down to it for a good sound and loudness the flowmaster 40 series sounds best. If I id mine again I would try going with the one chamber race muffler they have. Gibson sounds good too, but is more quiet, I would stay away from glasspacks they dont sound good unless you removed both cats.

I had sidepipes on my truck when I still had my 300-6. It sounded like a tractor cause I had removed the cats and had run straight pipe into two blown out glasspacks. The guys in the parking lot saw a flame shoot out one time, I wished I could have seen it. A buddy has a 4.2L V6 in his 97 pickup, his 40 series flowmaster was much deeper and sounded a lot better than my sidepipes, and his were dumped with his stock cats in place! I wouldnt pay good money for these bolt on exhuast kits, a reputable muffler shop is the best thing. Good luck.

cutting off the cats and running glasspacks isn't very good advise. it may work down in hicksville, but some parts of the country have imissions inspections and actually care about the environment. i think there is a sticky in the exhaust forum about this. do everybody a favor and keep the cats on there. think of another way to get a nice sound. its good to use your head every once and a while.

as my truck sits now (how it was when i acquired it) is a single 2 1/4" pipe, no cats, into a 30" glasspack...it sounds alright...semi-deep packy "rumble" if you will, but as for flat out loudness...ain't good enough for me...i'll probably give a 20-24" pack a try, down the road, and if i don't like that, i'll give a 40 series flow a shot...
for the truck i'm planning to build up, i'm gonna run true dual 2 1/4" pipes into a pair of 40 series flows w/ turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle housing, to dump the sound into the pavement and then out....thinkin it should sound pretty good...we'll see when it happens...

hey to steal you thread, but I have Dual Cat-bak exhaust and its not loud enough, on the cats you have two pipes that go into one cat then into another cat, how can I take the cats out? with the cross member there? just cutt from the two pipes and cutt at my muffler and put a Ypipe into my muffler?

Blue...sawzall the pipes in front of first cat and behind second cat, and have a piece of y-pipe made and swedged to fit over the pieces of original exhaust pipe and weld it shut....should work just fine...if you hafta work around the crossmember, make the back cut behind the crossmember where you can get to it with a welder....on your truck, you get caught takin the cats out...BIG fine...be careful....oh...and most muffler shops won't do the work for you...
