Undercoating good or bad?

Has anyone in the northern states undercoat your truck. Does it help in the long run against rust protection? Especially if you keep your truck for a long time.

If done properly it can help. If done halfa** it will create pockets for moisture and salt to accumulate and make things worse. Undercoating is also a major pain if you have to work on, disassemble, parts that have been coated.

Straight from ford wed site!

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover surface rust, deterioration and damage of paint, trim, upholstery, and other appearance items that result from use and/or exposure to the elements. You, as the owner, are responsible for these items. Some examples are: • dings, dents
• cuts, burns, punctures or tears
road salt • tree sap, bird and bee droppings
• windstorm, lightening, hail
• earthquake
• freezing, water or flood
• stone chips, scratches (some examples are on paint and glass)
• windshield stress cracks. However, limited coverage on windshield stress cracks will be provided for the first 12 months in service, regardless of miles driven, even though caused by use and/or exposure to the elements.

I had my truck undercoated the day I bought it. I don't see how it would void warranty since the dealer contracts with this same agency. I've seen plenty of examples of undercoating vs not undercoating and there is no doubt that undercoating prevents rust!

Doesn't cover SURFACE RUST, but I believe they do cover corrosive rust.

We've been taught at work that the auto industry is moving away from undercoating because it makes rust worse. It's not a corrosion protector and actual absorbs moisture and creates corrosion. especially if you've driven in salt at all and apply it over the dry salt. Plus In my opinion it just makes a mess of everything

If you've driven in salt before having it undercoated, then I'd suggest washing the salt off first

Most people don't even know that they've driven in salt when they have.

best pm is to wash weekly...the undercarriage. Use fluid film before winter sets in and spray the underside down.
