Is there any advantage or disadvantage to running the screw on type of filter/strainer vs the small type like Paysonpsd posted?
I really need to do this mod and it looks like the smaller type would help in the cost department.
If you intend to keep the stock fuel bowl the small filter will be just fine.
If you are planning on removing the stock fuel bowl then you need a spin on water separating filter to replace the stock filter.
Or just for peace of mind.
I have been running the small filter for several years without a problem. Have only replaced it once and it really didn't need it but they are only about 3 bucks. With the see-through filter it is easy to slide under the truck to see if it needs replacing. I keep a spare in the truck.

i just ordered the wix spin on set up from fleetfilter. base-24770, and filter 33405 with shipping to ohio it came to $44 dollars and some change. napa wants almost that much for just the filter.

Regulated return and fuel bowl delete for higher volume of fuel to larger injectors. All dependfs how much HP you are going for. I still have the stock fuel bowl with 200/80 hydrids and dynoed at 480+HP - 880+ lb/ft TQ.
Would I have more HP & TQ with a RR and fuel bowl delete. Maybe, maybe not. Do I want more? No.

I got all fancy, then went to 100% nozzles on my injectors, then went back to a strainer-type fuel filter like PaysonPSD's above... after I looked at the fuel pressure gauge at WOT.
You always have to carry an extra filter if you use the small one on the frame. I had to replace one at the worst time on a friends motor home and he didn't have one on hand. Thats the only disadvantage I can see with the small filter. Again, maybe I missed it but the tube in the tank is 3/8 inch, is the outlet on top of the tank, feed line 3/8 inch also?
Not sure of the exact numbers but some who have used a spin on filter question the ability of the pump to pull through the filter adequately. I know Tugly did the fuel pressure gauge after a lot of injector grief, probably not taking any chances.
i was planning on putting my spin on filter before the oem pump, that way i dont have to full with the fuel line after the pump. so do you guys think that the oem pump will struggle that way? would a small lift pump before the spin on be the way to go?
thanks chris
I have used a spin on filter for the last 8 months. Never had a problem with fuel supply, but I have stock fuel system. Also have the fuel bowl filter on it. Yes, two filters and no problems.
My situation is wierd with the big sticks. At a full tank, my fuel pressure never drops below 50 PSI at WOT, but it gets as low as 25 PSI at WOT when the fuel gauge reaches 1/4 - really not good for the injectors.
The spin-on is fine with stock sticks and maybe for AC 160/stock nozzles.
