In tank mod question

In the process of doing the Hutch mod and have a question about replacing the original fuel line and eliminating the vibralok connectors. Guzzles instructions don't show if he removed the length of stainless line that ran from the tank to the pump. Is this hard line just bypassed altogether or do you save it and just cut the lengths of hose from either end and replace with 30r7 fuel hose and hose clamps.

You can just add fuel hose (30R7 or 30R9) onto the quick connect fittings at the pump and the tank. They act as barbs in a way to help retain the hose.

I removed just enough of the fuel line, and the connector that attaches to inlet of pump, to put in pre-pump filter using two sections of diesel rate fuel line.

A Napa 3007 or Wix 3307 is essentially the same fuel filter and rated for diesel.

In case you haven't figured it out yet the fuel line connector at rear of the pump is not the typical quick-conect type.

So then the stainless steel line along the inside of the frame rail is bypassed and abandoned?

Usually. You can take it out if you wish, or leave it in. I would securely cap it, just in case you decide later to use it again.

If you are running an entire new fuel supply line from tank to the fuel pump then the stock supply line is not needed.

I used the stock fuel line from tank to pump, removed connectors, and added the inline filter to the pump inlet.

Edit: Connector at tank replaced with short piece of fuel line.

I kept the hard line from the tank to the pump, and used 30R9 (not 7) fuel line and quality 'EFI' type hose clamps to clamp the rubber hose at each end. I was happy to get rid of those oddball Ford connectors. I was told to use 30R9, as it is diesel resistant.

Good point Steve.

30R7 vs 30R9 This is a Gates explanation.

How do you disconnect the fuel lines from the in-tank fuel pump (vibralok connectors)? I have a 1997 F Superduty Gas 5.8L w/ front & rear tanks.

Thanks

If they are the quick-connect type you need to buy a quick-connect disconnect tool. Ask at an auto parts store. They should be able to show you what you need and how to use it. If they can't try another store. You need to know which size you need or by a kit with assorted sizes. The size you need goes by the size of the line you need to disconnect.

That is what I did and I capped the ends so if down the road I have a problem on the side of the road I have a backup fuel line there. That and on the stock line going into the pump all you have to do is use 2 hose clamps. Or do like Robin did and put a barbed end in the fuel pump. I think that is what Robin did.
