My 4wdtruck will not work. The tcase appears to engage bc i can hear it click and the front drive shaft is spinning. I dont see the knuckles that go out to the axle spinning. The hubs are Warns and are locked.
Sorry for the phone typing i will fix it when i get inside
Okay, first lets see if your transfer case is working
Is it manual?
or the electronic solenoid version?
either way UNLOCK the warns then shift the transfer case into 4hi or 4lo crawl underneath and try to spin the drive shaft, if the truck is in park just like your rear shaft you should not be able to spin either shaft.
hop in the cab and put back into 2hi maybe roll the truck backwards or forwards a bit, hop back underneath and you should be able to spin the front driveshaft
EDIT: Also in 2hi, lift the nose of the truck so both tires are off the ground, LOCK both warn hubs and spin a tire and see if the driveshaft turns, it should if it doesnt you have some type of internal problem, I would actually do this first
To add a little to what Powerstroke said: while in 2wd, Hubs unlocked, the axle should spin when you grab the u joint and turn it.
Keep the hubs unlocked and put it in 4hi. Try to spin the axle again. If it locks and won't spin, the issue is in the hubs not the tcase or the axle. If it still spins, the problem is somewhere else, and then revert to what Powerstroke said. I'd rule out the hubs before pulling out the jack stands.
I know, old thread. But, I wanted to add to this because it fixed my problem. Lost 4wd. I have Warn Hubs BTW. I twisted the front drive shaft and found the passenger side axle turned. Locked that hub. Twist again and the driver side axle turned. Locked that and the axle still turned. Pulled the hub apart and found the back side of the hub threw the snap ring. Replaced it and all is well. I have 4wd again. The workings seem a bit loose compared to the passenger side. So, maybe a worn warn... We'll see.
Boy, we pay the price but the proof is always on us. You can call and maybe have them to send the parts needed. They are there best one's and there mitt of been a problem with them. I bet you don't have the receipt right? I wouldn't after that long either.
I had Warn premiums and they are junk. The spring is weak. I went with Superwinch. There is no spring. It is a mechanical wedge. It can't fail like the Warns, and they are cheaper. Check Amazon.
