Coolant filter.
What really moves any sediment around is your motor and coolant getting up to temperature, staying there, and allowing the coolant to freely move through the filter.
Keep in mind, the filter is a "by-pass" filter... so a few hundred miles on the truck is less than that ging through the filter due to being a "by-pass" filter.
I went one whole oil change (5,000 miles) if memory serves me right... and just to keep it simple for me to remember to change it. Of course, you can change it early or check the temperture of the filter, and if it is not hot, then it has clogged.
No use paying for new coolant filters if you do not have too... but changing the first out at 500 miles is way too soon in my opinion and experience.
Good luck,
P.S. - I also only use distilled water and Ford Premium Gold coolant and flush my system every 50,000 miles to ensure 100% protection. I know have 223,000+ miles on my truck and all is well.
Here is a link to the dieselsite.com website (brand I bought and installed).

The pictures showing what was removed (testimonial sent in) is mine, after being so impressed with what their filter system did for my motor.
What came out of my motor was "casting sand" - small black particles of sand. From time to time I also get small white particles of something??
Others have been lucky (some call it disappointed) but they got nothing out... but that means their truck was built and clean well prior to building the motor!!!
Check out the link above and letter and pictures I sent Dieselsite.com as proof of why I like their system and why I highly recommend any coolent filter system on our diesel trucks - a picture is worth a thousand words!!!
Again, I change/flush my coolant every 50,000 miles, since clean coolant is vital, but coolant that is still maintaining its add-pack is also vital. Ford has since the introduction of our trucks in 2003, has reduced the service interval from 100,000 miles to 50,000 miles... or at least for people to be checking nitrite levels with "test strips".... me, I just flush and change and never check.
Knowing that I am filtering 100% of the time and flushing every 50,000 miles with Ford Premium coolant is good enough for me and so far has worked (with 223,000 on my truck and still have never had an EGR or head gasket issue)!!
Hope this helps,
