Headers/Exhaust setup on '95 F150 351 Windsor

Hey guys, I've tried reading up on this the best I could but haven't seemed to find the answer I am looking for. My truck is in storage until spring, but I would like to get a head start on planning a new full exhaust. As of right now its completely stock with a single in dual out turbo muffler. I would like to do a full true dual exhaust setup. There is a muffler shop here that has a great reputation for custom exhaust work but I'm looking to see what to purchase. The truck is a 1995 F150 4x4 with a 4" suspension lift. I would like to have installed Long Tube headers possibly into high flow cats & maybe some MAC Mufflers, 2.5" opposed to 3" as I hear I would lose power with going to 3" dual. I don't care about price as this truck is my daily driver in the summer and I'm the type of person who is going to pay to have it done right the first time, I'm looking for great sound and great quality.

That being said the truck is a daily driver so I'm not looking for as much of crazy power as I am sound. I want this truck to sound raw, so that people turn their heads when I drive by. The truck is in excellent condition and I think with a great exhaust setup will help top it all off. Let me know what you guys have for input/ suggestions, and as always Thank You!

The set up I have on my truck is pretty good, but there are a couple things I would change. If I were you, I would run a 2.5" outlet header, into 2.5" in and 3" out mufflers. That will help with scavenging. I always loved the sound of Flowmaster mufflers. The mufflers I have on my truck are identical to the Flowmaster 40 series and sound pretty mean. The Flowmaster Super 44s are pretty good sounding too, but both are pretty loud. If you want a quieter sound in town, run some Flowmaster 50 series mufflers. I ran those for the longest time and they were nice in town. Just a low rumble, but when you really step on it, they really scream.

Yeah that's what I thought 3" after the mufflers would look good for 3" tips. What brand headers do ya got? Ya dig em or would you suggest a different brand?

I have dual 2.5 Flowmaster 50 series mounted on edge next to each other in the stock location. With a crossover pipe for improved scavaging. Mine are on a 460 my Dad ran the same on a 351W. I think they sound pretty tough at lower rpm and get more aggressive while getting on it. Headers would be a great addition. I run the 40 series on my 68 El Camino with a built 327. I love the sound but they are Loud and resonate a lot. The 460 is an 89 the 351 is a 93

Everybody wants duals it seems but on these trucks it all has to run down the passenger side anyway because of where the front tank is positioned so duals don't provide any performance benefit over an equally well designed single but it will cost more. With longtube headers and an aftermarket cat you won't have to worry about sound.. the problem you're gonna have is taming it down to your liking, Personally I'll never use a Dronemaster muffer again because they're just too damn obnoxious with a setup like this, I have a Super 44 and a 50 series in the garage collecting dust because I couldn't tell any difference between them and they were both WAY to loud for my liking(completely drowned out the radio), I now have a Dynomax SuperTurbo on the truck and it's just about right.. lots of deep rumble but no BLAT!. As for the exhaust layout Id suggest 2.5" from the headers to a single 3" cat and muffler which then splits off to dual 2.5" tailpipes, there's no room for cats in the stock locations with longtube headers and this means you only need 1 cat and muffler so you'll save $$ on parts. Don't buy cheap headers, besides not lasting long they don't fit very well and will make attaching everything behind them more difficult, Pacesetter seems to have a good set that have been getting decent reviews around here.

Been looking at headers for awhile. But havnt mainly because of EGR and rear crossover pipe.

(97 f250 351w) Any reccommendations? Or and i going to have to get the headers modified?

I do not want a CEL/codes/or poor drivability. Doesnt have to pass emissions. Already deleted cat at the y pipe, 3" mandrel tubing all the way back. Dynomax muffler (love it) and 4" dynomax tip.

Thanks!

I'll toss in a plus for the Dynomax Super Turbo Sound. Nice and deep when you are on it, but not obnoxious while cruising. I had a set of true duals on my former 78 F-150 with a 400, and I bought the cat back kit for my present 88 F-250. Incidentally, I have Summit (Pacesetter) shorties feeding a Magnaflow y-pipe and cat, that feeds into the Dynomax cat back which is a single in, dual out system. Sounds almost as good as the true dual system on my F-150.

The Pacesetters have a fitting for the EGR on the front passenger side header and fittings for O2 sensors in the collectors, that's all you need. Delete the remainder of the air injection system including the crossover tube and all the valves and plumbing between it and the air pump and down to the cats, remove the vacuum lines to the TAB/TAD solenoids near the coil but leave these things electrically connected. That's it you won't have to worry about codes and the engine bay will be a little less cluttered, and also plug the sensor port in the drivers side header and plug the O2 in on the passenger side, it doesn't need to see both engine banks to work correctly since the computer applies the same fuel map to all cylinders anyway. And there should be enough extra wire in the O2 harness to reach the collector position if you remove some tape at both ends and pull it out, these wires merge to the engine bay harness up near the battery.

Very Good to know! Christmas might come early for me. Are most guys Running custom y-pipes? Or modified off the shelf voriety?

1996 FORD F 250 PaceSetter Headers 70-2223 - SummitRacing.com Those are the ones correct? Is the ceramic coating worth the extra bucks?? I have some left over heatwrap Ill tape them with anyways...

THanks!

I wouldnt go duals. Love the single. Hate the look of dual pipe coming out under the bumper.. single 3" is PLENTY loud. even with stop manifolds and ultraflow muffler my truck screams.

You're looking at a custom Y pipe, nobody ever made a longtubes Y-pipe for these trucks besides MAC and I don't think that system is in production anymore.

Ceramic coating is definitely worth the extra cost of you live in the north and/or near salt water, painted steel will begin to rust 10 minutes after you first fire up the motor..once all that paint burns off, so total life expectancy could be as little as 2-3 years in these harsh environments.

i wanted a true dual exhaust with long tube headers on my 1996 F350 4x4 with 351.

after really researching it and dealing with driveshaft, transfer case, fuel tank, and emission system concerns, i ended up with FMS stainless shorties, basani 3" stainless Y pipe, a single 3" flowmaster 70 series muffler (the biggest they make), and a 3" tailpipe that dumps just past the rear axle. truck runs great, sounds great, and performs great. the system tucks up nicely to the body giving me much more clearance than i had stock. i wouldn't change a thing. a dual setup would have been a mistake for me.

If that's the sound you want, don't even bother with a muffler. Or just put on a Dynomax Bullet. It's pretty much a straight through tube that looks like a glasspack kind of.

That was a pretty rough looking pull, but it did sound good!
