One big screw up!

Last day for my 1975 F100 to be out before putting it up for winter. Out to the National Forest for 1 last load of wood for winter. What happens.....I catch a stump on the driver's side that wipes out my door and half the bed. This is my baby, not a dent or scratch in all the years I've had it. always careful, until today...I'm just sick. So, it's at the shop, don't know if they can push things back out. So anyone out there have a nice OEM door (drivers) in case I need it. Might need a box to. Time to crack a beer and settle down. Guys at the shop said that's what they made them for, working, we'll fix it. Thanks for letting me vent!

I'll get some pictures to post. Yes, they are a good shop, they want to try pushing things out to keep the original metal in place. I told them that I would not accept any aftermarket replacement, just OEM steel, they agree. These guys love the old trucks/cars and will do it right.

Sorry to hear about you bad luck. Sounds like some decent people are working on it though.

That's a bummer and sorry to hear about it. I'd be sick to my stomach. Unless the damage is really severe and either tore or stretched the metal, I bet they can hammer most of it out. About 33 years ago, a drunk smashed into my parked '71 Camper Special that I owned at the time. The first shop I took it to told me that part of the sheet metal in the bed would need to be replaced due to the damage. Well I took a hammer, mallet, block, etc. to it and pounded on that bed side for a couple of hours and managed to pull a majority of it out and when I took it back to the shop, they were very impressed that I was able to repair most of it to the point that the metal was salvageable and no longer required any "replacement", obviously a little bondo but I managed to keep it all original.

Sorry to hear about this. On the bright side, it sounds like you've got a good shop working on it. Finding a good shop is 90% of the battle.

Would a set of nerf bar steps saved you at least a door? Just a thought for after you get it all fixed. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear your bad luck, but as others have said, it seems to be in some good hands at your shop and they will make it look good again. Hang in there and have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words....only a true blue Ford Truck owner understands. You hate to make a big deal out of it but it is a big deal. Yes, nerf bars would certainly saved the door and probably warned me of the pending doom. It was slow and steady destruction, wondering why the truck was not moving while trying to back a trailer into a spot. It's when I couldn't open my driver's door I knew I had a problem. You guys are great, you ease the pain. Waiting for insurance adjuster. Thought I had a stated value like I have on my other vehicles but this slipped through the cracks. It's going to be book value. Only book value I find is NADA but I'm sure the adjuster is going to say it's just an old nice looking truck worth a few hundred bucks. Please.....make sure you have your vehicles insured for what you think they are worth, it's not that much more than standard coverage. I will still try to post photos, I need to go over to the shop to take them. Thanks again, Tater

Tater, to add to your comment regarding insurance of these old Fords, it is important to get either an appraisal and/or stated value policy. Otherwise, they don't even necessarily do the book value vs. an actual cash value based on an "old Ford pickup". My F350 is insured for $14K based off an appraisal and stated amount. There was no way I was going to take the chance of getting into an accident and then getting a check for $750 to repair an all original classic. I handle insurance for a living so please make sure you have the right policy to cover the value of your hard work!

Here's a photo of the damage. It looks much worse in person, picture lacks depth. You can see it starts at the door and goes back along the bed. I did get some good news. Talked with the adjuster today and they will cover the damage/repair. Shop hopes to keep the metal and work it out. Bodyman says there's nothing like good clean OEM metal to work on, hope he's right!

Ford supplied door skins for these trucks, so there's no need to replace the entire door.

D9TZ-1020201-A (replaced D3TZ-1020201-A & D7TZ-1020201-A) .. Left Door Skin / 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco / Obsolete

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has ONE = 800-543-4959.

Thats nothing man, a body shop can fix that! Gimmie your old drivers door if you don't want it. I'd love to change it out for the swiss cheese sheet metal riveted bondo door I have.
