Hi guys, my new to me Excursion should be on the road this week (taken a while for paperwork/title) and as it's soon going to be the Christmas/New year holiday I might take the Excursion on a road trip instead of our E-class - It's a 2002 7.3 diesel - it will have oil, fuel and air filters, and oil change, and I should have my parts turn up to carry out the Hutch mod and Harpoon - so it should all be good to go, so thought I may aswell treat the kids to some extra space Oh when I checked against the VIN it has the 3:73 gears, and it's on stock rims. And I wont be towing - obviously I can fill up during the trip if needed, I just wanted an idea.
Just took a trip in mine earlier this month. 1050 miles round trip. I refueled at 840 miles into the trip. No kidding. And I could have gone further, but I don't like driving with the low fuel light on. Makes me nervous....
This last summer my brother and I went to WV with a car trailer to pick up a truck for our dad. On the way down we drove nonstop from central WI to WV and stopped to stay over night near the dealership with the truck. When I filled up in the morning I had something like 750-780 miles on the tank with the needle on the top side of the E mark. My brother was in awe.
IMO
It is all up to you, the harder you press on the go pedel the more fuel you will burn, no s":t, lol, don't go over 2 grand ever and you will be amazed at how far you can go!
These trucks will burn a lot of fuel if you make them burn it, hint hint!
Thanks for the replies guys At least it will give me more of an idea - I didn't want to just rely on the fuel guage or the overhead, as until you've got used to a vehicle, you never know how good the guages are!
Wow, 700 miles (or more) will do nicely thanks............just got to find an excuse and tell the Wife now that we 'have' to take the Ex on a long trip haha!
I wasn't sure on the tank size, I searched online but wasn't sure if different models had different size tanks - but I'm guessing they're all the same at 44g / 166 litres?

I love their reaction. Whenever I tell them that I can drive to Los Angeles (from San Francisco) and go back again to San Francisco without filling up and then some gas still left... They all think I am lying until they ride with me (340 miles each way)
