Hi. New here and have a ford c.o.e. addiction. I currently have three ford cabovers, a 39 that i drive as often as i can. a project 56 and a 47 project. If i can help anyone with questions on c.o.e.'s just ask.the first picture was on the test drive to bonneville 2011, the second is this year. Built the box this past spring.
Very nice looking truck, glad to hear you drive it as much as you can. Tell us a little more about it. Still running the flathead or something a bit more modern? Welcome to FTE and again, great looking truck.
A little more about the 39. This is the second c.o.e. i've done, having sold the first to help my kids with school i always wanted another one. A few guys in the local club knew where this one was but wouldn't give up any info. after a couple years of asking around i was able to track it down. I bought it from the second owner, he had bought it at the neighbours farm auction when they sold out in 1963. he was 12yrs old and paid 8 dollars. It was in bad shape as he had learned to drive in it and had more than a few wrecks, the grill had been removed and put on the wall in the barn(good thing) but the grill surround was beat.
I mounted the cab on a 72 GMC frame( don't hate me ) and started the bodywork.I rebuilt the front suspention as well as sandblasting and painting the frame.Built a firewall and floorI went with a mid-mounted engine to retain as much room inside as i could.then it was more bodywork and primer, etch and high build mixed to shopdawg blue.Bought some classic gauges and a wiring kit. Moldled all the inside tins around the windshield as i eliminated the flipout wndshields.and went with V-butted front glass.I'll continue with my rambling later.
Very god looking truck. I recently traded for a 47 ford Coe. I want to mount on a newer frame for all the obvious reasons, what is the platform yours is on?
fish-i used a 72 gmc 1/2 ton as i wanted a nice ride. The first c.o.e. i built was on a 1 ton frame but i ended up swapping the running gear for 1/2 ton. The 72 has the same track width as the newer gm's but doesn't have such a extreme drop under the cab allowing the cab to sit lower. IMO measure track width as i feel tires sticking out beyond the fender ugly. it all depends on what you want to use your truck for.
