I posted a few times on this issue a month or so ago, got a 93 150 with 302. Stumbled all over itself, no power, no mileage. One of the codes that ALWAYS popped koeo was keep alive me failure. Today I took a load to landfill, was stumbling as usual and check engine light came on again. With the KAM failure, it never stored codes, so i tried to catch it as soon as got home. Reader came back with no kam code, and 2 egr codes-insufficient flow and closed voltage high. My best guess is, I have a loose or corroded wire somewhere going to eec and it reconnected and finally ran closed loop-took it on highway right away and while it's not winning any races, it didn't buck the whole way to 65. Sound about right? Any ideas on where I might start looking/cleaning connections? dunno where the box is on these.
I think I'd replace the ECM. It sounds like you have some failing parts. Also check your relays under the hood. Check battery cables, or even better just replace them with GOOD ones. Something in the 4 gauge should be good.
I think some of these older EEC's have capacitors that are prone to leakage over time, and that takes out other components on the board. Actually all electrolytic capacitors will leak, it's just a matter of time. If checking the wiring turns up nothing, pull the EEC and take a look inside. If you have good electronic repair skills, you can probably find the needed components and fix it yourself. If you do mess it up, it ain't like it wasn't fixin to fail anyhow.
KAM fault means that either the wire that's supposed to supply constant +12v to the computer is bad (or you have other ground/power issues), or the computer is failing.
You never usually had codes because the codes are stored in the KAM.
Well, if it wasn't broke before.....lol. I plugged in this morn and the KAM fail code was back, started it up and started poking around under passenger kick panel, finally found several modules under the center of dash. Unplugged one for ****s n giggles figuring truck would die, but it didn't.....till i plugged it back in.......I should know better around computers lol, now it doesn't seem to want to start.
Edit-got it started again, and after running a while the kam code gone again. It may be a voltage issue if I need a new battery, though I'd gotten it before after driving a while and getting a good charge. I may have imagined it was running better too, it may accel better, but still struggles to get past 60 and shakes like crazy when speed levels off. Seems like it's gotta be a fuel or fire issue. I think all I can do for now is deal with it till I can take it in somewhere and get it put on a scope, then I'll have a solid starting point. Just hard to do being a trucker and never knowing when I'll be home/how much money will have.
Was able to sneak into dealer this afternoon, thought I'd found all the wires/vac lines chewed by mice, but apparently not....had 2 cylinders swingin free cause they got into the injector harness under the intake. $200 later and I'm sitting pretty off the line, gotta get her out on the highway yet.
