spare tire mount question

Hey guys I just picked up a 89 and it came with a spare tire rack not yet installed but I think i have all the parts. My question is, is the threaded j hook thing the only thing that holds the tire on the rack? I have 33's and don't want any problems. If anyone has a pic of there's I would appreciate it greatly. I might have to fab up something stronger :/.

I think the rack should hold it...but you should consider beefing up the mounting behind the right rear fender. That is a lot of weight to submit that to over time.

Don't "Spare" the details...

You say the vehicle came with the mount, but not installed. Does it have the mount holes in the right fender/quarter panel and tailgate? If so then there should be no problem. However, if not, then you will need to add the proper backing plates to spread out the stress since the body sheet metal is woefully indaquate to handle the weight of the bracket and tire - especially a 33".

And, BTW, thank you for helping to keep the Bronco spirit alive!

dn.
