Spare tire question?

I have a 95 Bronco with the spare tire mounted inside. I have read it is a huge hassle and generally not recommended to try to get a mount put on the back. I was thinking about getting a rack and placing it on top and mounting the tire up there. Is this something that would be a bad idea? If not, how would I expect to pay for it?

You can put a rear-mounted tire carrier on it. Adding the OEM external carrier is all but impossible because of the way it needs to be mounted to the passenger side rear quarter. You can always add a bumper-mounted rear carrier or a hitch-mounted carrier if your Bronco has a receiver hitch. The roof section of the fiberglassis top is only about 1/8" thick across the middle so I'd be worried about the weight of a full size spare up there. Mounting a rack can be done but again its more weight.

If you're not using an oversize spare, you can put it on the top. But I think the best option is the bumper mount. There is a also a spare tire mount available from jcw that goes to the front bumper.

I'd recommend against mounting it on the front. The Tranny Clinic that I worked at wouldn't warrantee a rebuilt tranny if they had a front mounted spare tire carrier. My 2 cents.
