Exactly where is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) located on the 1996 Eddie Bauer, 5.8L Bronco parked in my front yard located? Yes, I'm not a certified mechanic and, yes, I don't want to screw up something that should be able to be changed out by a DIY'er.
Almost all of the hoses, sensors and other parts on my Bronco are OEM parts. This is on an engine with 260,000 miles on it now and it seems to be wanting some "tender love and care" other than the usual oil change and lube job.
Wait!, before messing with the VSS, does the speedometer needle jump? if the speed readings are fine then the VSS is working just fine. It's one of those parts that very rarely fail, and in the proccess of removing it you'll probably damage it, requiring a new part.
Thanks again FTE (and Encho and Kemicalburns), I really appriciate the warning and suggestion. My other research suggested the EGR valve and/or EPS - which I will start with now. Also, I'm thinking about replacing all of my rubber vacuum hoses before I spend any money on parts. Y'all will have to admit the sixteen years under the hood is a long time for rubber!
