Hey guys yesterday morning I went out to start my truck and got nothing but a single click…. I didn’t have time to investigate since I had to go take a final so I left it and when I came home I started poking around. I tried tapping it with a hammer and still only got a click, checked all battery terminals and cables including ones going to the starter but yet only got a single click. Well tonight I had someone try starting it while I tapped it with a hammer and got nothing. I was wondering if anything else could cause the issue I am having. CPS? Anytime I have had a starter go out on a vehicle the hammer trick worked once or twice but Ive never had one just die on me. I just want to see if there are any other possibilities before I drop 170 on a new starter. Thanks Cody<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Really, use a volt meter and see if there is voltage at the starter when the key is turned to start.
Pull the starter and have it tested at a local parts store.
What is the charge on the batteries....to low and you can get a click but not enough to operate the starter.
Did I mention a volt meter....better than a hammer.
Batteries are a month old, both are good. I tried a pretty big hammer haha but I might have to bite the bullet and just buy a new starter. I would have it tested but im limited on time cause of finals week.
You have to turn it in as a core anyway...just have them test it then so you know.
Good luck on the finals.
Apparently autozone has a brand new starter for 160 with a 10 dollar core charge. Ill probaly just keep mine and have it rebuilt for a spare. And thank you I have been hard at work studying all week.
Mine came apart once on my girlfriend at the bank.
She said the same thing, just a click. some guy tried to jump start it and it just clicked. then of course she called AAA and they said the battery's were bad. installed two battery's and you guessed it.. Click. she called me and i told her to have them remove the battery's and put mine back in, and she should had called me in the first place. had it towed home about 3 miles and when i got home from work i crawled under the truck and you could see that the long bolts that hold the starter together had snapped and the starter fell apart. i had put a new starter in it about 6 month earlier do to burning it out when i ran out of fuel one time.
ford replaced it no charge..
