A Vent...

Have you ever just wanted to walk away.. today was the day.

In the last year I have
replaced the trans
in the last two months
replaced the yoke and drive shaft and all front end parts
in the last month
replaced the injectors
replaced the motor
Had to be pulled twice because of a f'd up timing chain cover
In the last week
truck died out, needed an alternator ( no battery light)
today, fuel pump took a shiznit....

today.. I am so wanting to just turn both barrels at the truck and walk away....

Sorry to hear that pat. I am with ya, put around $3,200 in my truck in the past month and a half and have a gut feeling something major is coming. Not looking forward to it.

You want a little cheese with that whine??

Lol, I have felt that way before brother. I was just explaining to a friend last night why he didn't want a 6.4 or 6.7. He is not mechanically inclined and just kinda wanted a 'newer' truck - his 7.3 X runs just fine. The fact is 7.3's are going UP in value compared to the rapidly declining value of the 6.oh's and pathetic resale value of the 6.4/6.7's. These later model trucks are nearly 'disposable' since after awhile, the cost of repair often exceeds the 'worth-it' value of the truck. Our venerable 7.3's are ridiculously simple by comparison and with a couple million still on the road, parts will be readily available for a looooong time.

Anyway, this too will pass. Just consider how much you'd miss this truck if ya decided to get rid of it???

I wouldn't get rid of the 7.3 either. I have an Early 99 bought in 05 and since then put 110,000 additional miles on for a total of 264,000. Other than maintenance/service items I have not broke into the engine, injectors or transmission. I haul a two horse gooseneck and 9" cabover camper. It's a great truck.

I then bought a late 99 March 2012 with 190,000 on it. This one was a neglected truck. So far it has only needed maintenance/service; all fluid and filter changes with samples sent to Blackstone.
complete brake job front and rear, AC Repair and end links, drag link replaced along with an alignment.

Seems to me (IMO) when buying a truck with the 7.3's One should look for trucks that haven't been raised, wide tired, chipped or tuned. In my experience these trucks have been beat up and hot rodded then disposed of.
Hang on to your 7.3 and get it on a maintenance program and repair items as soon as they show up. Maintenance and service is the key to longevity in the Powerstroke.

I hear ya bud. I got to the point where I just drove the Corolla until I could cool my jets. Give it time in the driveway and let the grinding between the ears spin down. Always approach the truck with a clear plan and patience to see it through... because fixing it with impatience invites redos. The fuel pump is a pretty easy fix and Clay has about the best price on the OEM pump. Perspective:

I have poured $20,000 into Stinky - including a topper, multimedia system, chassis repairs, upgrades, engine stuff, software, HD transmission, etc.... I bought Stinky for $10K and when I'm done, the truck should be good for another 200K miles with a few repairs here and there. Name one vehicle that has the capabilities of these trucks, the ease of repair, the availability of parts/upgrades, and the longevity (once squared away) that you can get your hands on for the $30K-$35K price range. Newer Ford? Try replacing an electronic module without having to sit on a pillow for the following week. Duramax? Log into that forum and read their woes. Cummins is a great platform, but Dodge... not so much. There is a reason the value of these trucks with the 7.3L is climbing, and it's not because of nostalgia... it just gets the job done. Many who abandon the effort return from the diesel wilderness tattered, but with a renewed sense of determination. I look over the fence and it's devoid of green, with exception of the the frequency you see the pump handle and/or open your wallet.

Dang, that was enough for a AAA membership which would get ya (4) tows...

The Airtex fuel pump is FINE, don't worry about it. IF it fails, get them to REFUND the money - then buy another one. This will start the warranty over again. If you just exchange it, the warranty is only good for 1yr from purchase date. I've been running VO through an Airtex pump for a looooong time - no issues yet!!!

You needed the exercise? Maybe that's just my fat butt... Anyway, the physical exertion helped reduce anxiety??? Hopefully its not snowing up there... Just looking for some lemonade from all this brother!

It'll get better SOOOON!!! If not, there's always booze.
