injector swap question

Hey everyone I bought a rebuilt up and brand new Delphi injectors, I got a quote from my local mechanic and it came out to 679$ for Ip and injector removal and replacement for just labor. If I do the injectors myself it drops the price down to 380 so I'm wondering if its possible to remove the hardlines without removing the pump? I'm trying to save a little money but if I have to remove the pump I would rather pay for the labor since I dont have the equipment to time the truck, so what does everyone think? I bought brand new injectors with o ring and cap kit from pensicola

if i were you, i'd ask to be good and sure that he has a timing meter and can do it right. then go home, swap everything yourself, setting the timing to the old marks on the IP and its mounting bracket, then drive the truck to his shop and only pay him to time it for you - as long as that price isn't excessive. i bought my timing adapter brand new for less than 300.

but even if you have him do the IP, doing the injectors yourself is pretty simple. you should be able to pull the little clips off that hold the lines to each other, and from there you should have enough room to move the lines out of the way and change the injectors. just be sure to put the clips back on or you'll start breaking injector lines.

and something sounds a little funny about $300 in labor for the injectors when he's gonna have the IP off anyway, making access easy. with the lines out of the way he just has to take a 1" socket and screw them out, screw the new ones in, and assemble the return lines - he would have to work real slow to justify even 2 hours there since the IP would be off anyway - 1 hour would be more likely

Ya that is what I thought to. Would it be worth it for me to buy the adapter and do it myself, I wouldn't need it for a long time but I would have it for next pump change and cost half the price. Does AutoZone happen to have the adapter to time it? If so I could probably rent it from them. Also if I buy the adapter who is a good company to buy from and are there kits since i don't have a timing light

Do a search for timing adapters, they aren't cheap.
This topic comes up all the time, Autozone will not have anything that will work.

Changing injectors is easy, its been covered plenty of times here, as well as some of the issues that can happen in the process.
