I have a 1977 ford f150 with 302 (5.0) in it. I have problem it is not pumping fuel from the tank to the engine. so i get new fuel pump for it. install it and nothing. i pull tank out and clean it up make sure the lines are clear. set the motor at top dead center. put everything back together and test everything again and nothing. i buy a electric pump and still nothing. will pump from gas can but not from the tank i have 7 gallons of gas in the tank should be enough right to get fuel from the tank to the engine. what else can i try to find out what the problem is.
First, do you have dual tanks? If yes, be sure which tank you're running on.
Next, check all the soft lines in the system for cracks. Over time these lines will get hard and crack allowing the pump to suck air and lose it's prime.
'just a note if it is still has the electric pump installed... electric pumps are better pushing fuel rather than siphoning fuel. It should be mounted as close as possible to the fuel tank.
Also, loosen the fuel cap so allow the tank to breathe and the pump is actually creating a vacuum.
Lastly, change or take the fuel filter out of the equation... if it is right after the electric pump, make sure the direction of flow is correct.
