I asked BarryR this question one time on the other forum. The whole girdle vs cross bolts thing.
He mentioned the fact that the girdle bolts to the oil pan rail, which was never designed/machined to be in line with the main caps. As such, it actually required more machining and cost to install than cross bolts.
Silly me, I though it woulda been a bolt on kinda thing.
Of course unless you are making huge hp/turning high rpms they aren't really needed.
