'97 F-150, 5.4, Ext. Cab I bought the "towing package" which included the factory hitch reciever below the bumper, upgraded trailer light connector, tranny cooler, etc. Questions: My owners manual doesn't say what my towing capacity is, Is this a "class III" hitch? How do I find my rear end ratio? I'm moving cross country and want to pull a trailer with my rig... don't want troubles along the way.
Your rear axle ratio is stamped on a small metal tag hanging off one of the bolts to the rear differential. Crawl under your truck and look at the back of the pumpkin. You should easily see it. Your ratio is probably a 3.55.
I checked the tag and it is not clear which ratio... 3S908A1 559757804 ?? I read somewhere else that a rear end code of "19" from the jamb sticker means an open rear with a ratio of 3.55, is this true? I notice seepage from the rear cover, no drips... I'm thinking this is somewhat normal? I also saw another tag that said "Use synthetic lube only", interesting!
A 19 is 3.55 non limited slip.
It is fairly normal for there to be a slight oil stain on the cover but if it's anything more than that I think I'd reseal it.
