general towing question
I'm looking at a used 97 to 2000 150. Whats the towing capacity of a 6 cylinder opposed to an 8. Roughly. not sure any more details except it's going to be a 4x2. Don't have axsle details and such.

I have a 97 F-150 4.6 L V-8, but I think all of them with the towing bumper (not the receiver hitch) are rated at 5000 lbs without ant modifications. I think the MSN Carpoint site goes back that far with specs.

It also depends on the rear end and transmission type. Deeper rear gears (numerically higher) and an auto will give you a way better tow rating from the manufacturer. It looks like you don't want anything with 3.08's. The 2003 spec lists the max weight at a ton no matter what engine or tranny.
