Everything I've read sense posting that says to bolt a T-case to a 2wd you have to change the mainshaft.

So it will be either a 2wd tanny and divorced 205 or a 4wd tranny and my stock stuff. I'm thinking bang for the buck will probably be 2wd with a 205 but depends on what I find.

Anyone put the gas gears with the low granny in a diesel case? I think that would be worth some extra time and expense.

Can't find the threads atm but it is possible to do, aside from the different ratios from what I read they are supposed to be the same internally aside from 4x2 & 4x4 differences obviously. You might want to do some searching to double check, but if I had the knowledge/tools (or money ) I would do it in a heartbeat. Even with 4.10s in the rear 1st and reverse aren't even close to being low enough for my preference.

Yeah, I think I'll try and get that done while I'm at it. Hell I have a 460 truck with a C6 that could also use a ZF5 and the higher gears would be fine in it. Maybe do both and just trade gears between the cases. Anyway, still mute at the moment, lots of work and shopping to do first. But now I got a better idea what I'm looking for, thanks.

They aren't the easiest transmissions to pull apart, I'll just throw that out there. Alvin in AZ (I think thats his username) did a pretty nice job doing a thread showing how to break them down and put it back together again, without the fancy factory tools. I've done it, had to swap the front case after mine cracked. It rather sucked...

There are a couple of good .pdf's out there with parts breakdowns. I've collected them and done a bit of reading. There was a thread a while back where I had some time and some people were discussing differences. I don't remember when or why, but I threw together a pretty good post outlining some of the parts differences. I want to say that the input shafts from a gasser 'might' be different because of the clutches (different spline count and size on small block gas??) 460 and diesel ones I think are the same..

I can't remember the rest, and don't can't open the files I have at the moment.

Basic difference between 2wd and 4x4: mainshaft, rear housing. All the gears would swap no problem, with the exception possibly the input shaft and whatever gear is on it (can't remember right now? 4th?)
