Oil Cooler Question

Oil Cooler Question

Rebuilding my oil cooler and I knocked off the front housing that bolts to the block before I remembered to mark were it located with the cooler tube. The back one had a paint mark that lines up with the locating tab for the rear so I was good there.

Will this thing be able to twist enough (if I have it close enough) once I get it rebuilt to line all the bolt holes up (and oil pass.) to mount it back on the motor?

Yes, you should be ble to twist it. I use just a thin layer of oil on the o- rings to ensure they don't bind when reassembling.

some people claim #2 gun grease can help from rolling or pinching the orings with the extreme pressure required for assembly.

Thanks for the help guy's!!

My plan is to use Vasaline on the o-rings, because I think it was Pete that had a problem with using oil?

Also what are the torque spec's for the five bolts? I think I remember 18 ft/lb. I thought I had all my info set for this project, but I guess not.

notes I had from a write up showed 18ft lb for attachment bolts, also vasoline or trans gel for orings as well as #2 grease.

Vaseline, cheap and you usually have it. It worked like a champ for me. No issues so far on the oil after about 5k miles after oil change.
