I'm not so sure I would recommend splicing them and re-joining the wires. The reason I say this is because there really isn't much "give" to the length on that wire. Too long, and you are asking for the wiring to get caught on a blade and break again. Too short and, well you can't re-join them. As far as how difficult is it to change one out, I don't consider a job like that to be overly difficult. Simply remove the fan shroud and once removed, you simply break the fan clutch loose from the water pump and remove it with the fan stator simultaneously.
