I repaired my headliner on my 1990 F150. Went to put the dome/map light back in place, when I noticed one of the black plastic/metal wire connectors was broken! It looks like a eyelet and the dome light mount screw goes through it. Where can I find replacements? Thanks
Thanks I've thought of that too. But these things seem to be like a dry way anchor. Pressed into the sheetmetal so when you put the screw in the center it secures the dome light to the ceiling, but the metal screw does Not touch the metal of the cab. So gettig them out of a salvage yard might be a challenge without tearing them up in the process. They are very brittle from the heat here in Sw Oklahoma.
Checked the local parts stores, and the ford dealer, No luck. Went to the salvage yard and had to carefully remove these plastic block terminals. Four attemps got one. Spliced it in, replaced the burnt fuse and it works now! What a pain in the a......sss!
Having the same issue with my 2003 Ranger. Dome light removed by previous owner, probably because the stupid "Door Ajar" light is on all the time.
Guessing the #6 sheet metal screw is the right fit since I've tried #8 machine screws and sheet metal screws, and a #8 sheet metal. Guess I'm heading back to Home Depot to get some #6 sheet metal screws. All this to probably learn that the light was removed because it won't turn off.
You boys are trying way too hard. What some of us do, is toss those old horrible dome lights and grab something from a more modern truck or car and swap the whole thing. Much improved interior lighting for just a few bucks.
Oh, it looks like I retained the ground plastic, for simplicity but you know, you can just make your ground rather than frig with those. Just grimp on some ring terminals and or fish a devoted ground wire up there and butt connect it.You don't need to use what was cheap and most efficient to use on the assembly line, to get a ground to your light.
Well, this is great, I appreciate the wiring picture. But I still need screws to put it back in place. I have a functioning dome light, I just need to be able to install it.
