Dome Light Question

LOL.... I never thought I'd ever post a question about a silly dome light!

Anyway, the dome light (it's an "fancy" one with the two built in map lights) in my truck was broken...one of the metal tangs that hold the plastic lens in broke. Anyway, off to the junkyard I go. I grabbed on in good shape; when I took it out, a small plastic peice came out with it that went around the the two back mounting screws.. It fit into the light assembly and had a Ford logo and part number on it. I kept the small part and went to my truck. I pulled out my dome light, found that it didn't have this little part, put the replacement light in (without the small part) and good to go.

Now... I got to thinking....was there ever a recall or TSB about dome light wiring? Should I put this peice in? This is such a minor thing, but I just got to wondering about this. Any thoughts? I'd hate to see my truck charcoal instead of blue... that's the reason I'm asking about this.

I believe it is a reflector, designed to reflect light and heat. Which one did you get? the old looking chrome one or the newer looking black plastic one

The old looking Chrome one.

It's definitely not a reflector in so far as it's not "shiney". Its an opaque white plastic peice, rectagular in shape with two holes in it that the back mounting screws go through. I will try to see if I can post a pic of it.

The there is a plate in the inside of the dome light assay that is always powered... least that's the way I remember mine was...I think the part your referring too is the insulator... it insulates the mounting screw from the housing assay.... as to not cause the mounting screw to ground out and cause a short. If you swaped the whole assay then I would defiantly install that part!

There is no tsb that I could find on the dome light.

It's just a spacer.

Well, I think I can put my own silly little thread to rest. After seeing Goodboy's post, I thought I'd better run out and put this thing in. However, the dome light didn't fit properly at all. So I took it out and the dome light fits perfectly. I think Frederic is right....it's a spacer, but I think GoodBoy's probobly got the right idea too seeing the pic of his truck. I remembered that I took this thing out of a regular cab truck, and not a Supercab like mine is. So I bet that spacer is used only on Regular cab F-series trucks with dome light/map light combo.

Who ever thought thought we could do eight posts and two pics on a dome light post....lol
