Okay, subject at hand is a '94 2WD 4.0 extended. The two "Y" shaped heater hoses need replacing and their part numbers are: F49Z18472K & F49Z18472L. FWIW, these hoses are very close to each other as far as material content. Of course, these hoses are obsolete through the normal Ford dealers and Ford internet supply houses. I actually found a dealer that had the "L" number, I purchased it, it is on the way and the price was decent. I found another seller that has the "K" part number on the internet. Things were going great.....until he tell me that he has to have ~$150 for it. I politely tell him that the price is the deal-breaker, thank him for his time, and then hang up.
To the people on this group who have replaced these WITHOUT USING THE GENUINE FORD REPLACEMENT HOSES, what was your plan of attack? I suspect I'm just going to get a "T"-shaped hose barb and re-engineer this myself. I've also found a replacement Gates #22666 (Google images will show a pic) that might help me out here.
The replacing starts next week. A few pointers or a source for that "K" part number (at a decent price) would be great. Otherwise, the 'ol "T"-shaped hose splice will be the plan. Ideas and previous experiences are welcome here. TIA.
There are generic "Y" hoses available that you essentially cut to proper length. I've seen them on several auto part store sites but have never used one. Our NAPA store here has sign in their window that says they make hydraulic hoses onsite (with the neat end crimpings). I have always wondered if they could do the same for a custom heater hose set up.
