Where can I buy a 45 elbow heater hose fitting?

I found a 45 degree elbow barbed heater hose fitting for 5/8" i.d hose & 1/2" i.d. @ threaded end online. The only problem is they want $25 for the fitting and $18 to ship it (3-day...not even overnight!). Granted, it's a stainless steel little beauty, but I'd be happy with a rusty p.o.s., as long as it's solid so I can paint it. This is for a 53 F-100 w/ 215 I-six. Anyone know a source for this piece? The local auto stores around here don't have anything like this in their catalogs.

That's a fairly common plumbing fitting if you want it in brass. I doubt the big box home improvement places (Lowes, Home Despot) will have it, but if you have a plumbing supply place nearby, they should. You might have to get it with a 3/8" NPT end and use a 3/8" to 1/2" reducing bushing - no big deal. If you can't find it locally, McMaster-Carr sells them (part number 53525K52) but you have to buy a pack of 5 for $14.19 plus shipping of probably $5 to $8.

Try a radiator shop, they probably have some old heater cores laying around that you could rob a neck from. (I know this to be true, since I'm in the business.) To keep the hose from slipping off, just get them to put a couple of dabs of solder at each end, 180 degrees apart, then use good hose clamps.

You could make one out of copper pipe fittings. Flare the end of the tubing slightly to act as a hose retainer.

Junkyards are also an excellent source for odd fittings and fastener hardware.
