hey guys i was going to change the heater hoses on my 1993 3.0 aerostar and it looks like they have those spring type ford hose locks on them. could this really be the case? does this make those hoses hard to get ? are they dealer items only or am i mistaken about this whole thing? any tips or tricks to changeing them would be greatly appreciated
The heater hoses do have the quick connects on the ends. There is a special tool that you use to unhook them, it is a rod with an L shaped fork on the end, it worls pretty slick. When I replaced my heater hoses, i had to cut the end off and reuse the old ends, using small hose clamps to attach them to the hoses.
Napa has replacement ends that have the clip on them that you then can use a hose clamp to put them on. Makes it much easier if you replace them again.

Hello John,
I am trying to replace a heater core and the hose on my 1987 3.0L aerostar. I called Napa to inquire about the replacement ends with a clip since quick connect hose (i don't beleive it is quick... I am having hard time trying to disconnect the hose from the heater core) but they said they do not have the item. I don't know what I am going to do now that the item is not available. I live in a small town so maybe why they did not have it. Although they can order from somewhere. um... any suggestion?
Well, about the various "clamps". I bought a used Aerostar, and when I went to to replace bad heads, I found that, in the past, someone had replaced the Ford hose fittings with screw on clamps when they installed new hoses.
Not all were replaced, but about half of them were. In trying to get the others off, I decided that when I put it back together, I'm going to replace all those Ford hose clamps with the screw on type.
I don't feel like buying alot of extra Ford "special" tools that I may only use once.
